On a half-ounce spool of 22-gauge wire there should be approximately 5.25 meters. 22 gauge is 0.65mm thick. The definition for 14 karat gold-filled wire is that the wire contains 1/20th of 14K gold. Generally speaking this means that you should get a bonded surface of 14K gold onto a base metal such as copper. Since this bonding process is often not possible with some components, it is acceptable to electro-plate the part heavily to the same standard of thickness. There should be little difference between bonding and plating other than that a plated surface may be slightly softer than a pressure and heat bonded surface.
